Expert Advice

Why Choose a Heart Shaped Diamond?

The heart shaped diamond is the most unmistakably romantic diamond shape — a modified brilliant cut sculpted into the universal symbol of love. Requiring exceptional craftsmanship to achieve perfect symmetry between its two lobes and a clean, defined cleft, the heart is one of the most technically demanding shapes to cut well.

Love Made Visible

No other diamond shape carries inherent emotional meaning. A heart shaped diamond is a declaration — it says "this was chosen with love" before a single word is spoken. For anniversaries, Valentine's Day, or a proposal with maximum romantic impact, nothing else compares.

Exceptional Sparkle

Don't let the romantic shape fool you — the heart is a modified brilliant cut that delivers serious light performance. Its 56–59 facets are engineered for maximum brilliance, fire and scintillation, rivalling the pear and round for pure sparkle.

Excellent Value

Heart shaped diamonds typically cost 25–35% less than a comparable round brilliant. Lower demand means you get a unique, emotionally meaningful shape at a fraction of the cost — with the same certified quality and brilliance.

Versatile Jewellery Piece

The heart works beautifully as a solitaire engagement ring, a romantic pendant, matching earring studs, or even a three-stone arrangement with side diamonds. Its compact proportions suit virtually any setting style and jewellery type.

A Testament to Craftsmanship

A perfectly symmetrical heart is one of the hardest shapes to cut. Choosing one is choosing a diamond that demanded the cutter's absolute best — both lobes identical, the cleft clean, the point sharp. It's a shape that honours the craft itself.

Common Questions

Heart Shaped Diamond FAQ

Everything you need to know about buying a heart shaped diamond.

What carat weight do I need for the heart shape to be visible?

We recommend 1.00 carat or larger for a heart shaped engagement ring. Below 0.75 carat, the heart silhouette becomes difficult to distinguish and can look more like a round or pear. For pendants, where the diamond hangs freely and catches light from all sides, 0.50 carat can still display the shape clearly.

How important is symmetry in a heart diamond?

Symmetry is the single most important quality factor for a heart shaped diamond. Both lobes must be identical in size and shape, the cleft (the dip between the lobes) must be clean and well-defined, and the point at the bottom must be centred and sharp. Even minor asymmetry is visible. We recommend Very Good symmetry or higher.Read our cut guide.

What is the best length-to-width ratio for a heart?

The ideal heart ratio is between0.90 and 1.10, with 1.00 being the classic proportional heart. Below 0.90, the shape appears too narrow and tall; above 1.10, it looks too wide and flat. A ratio close to 1.00 gives the most recognisable and balanced heart silhouette.

What clarity grade should I choose for a heart diamond?

Heart shaped diamonds can show inclusions more easily near the point and cleft — two areas where the facet pattern is less forgiving than in the centre. We recommend VS2 or higher for hearts. If you choose SI1, inspect the certificate to ensure inclusions aren't located near these visible areas. For hearts over 1.50 carat, consider VS1+ as inclusions become more noticeable at larger sizes.

Can I use a heart diamond in an engagement ring?

Absolutely — heart shaped engagement rings are a stunning and deeply personal choice. We recommend a bezel or V-prong setting to protect the delicate point, and a minimum of 0.70 carat so the heart silhouette is clearly visible when set. Hearts also work beautifully as pendants and earring studs.

How can your prices be so much lower?

We buy directly from cutters and sight-holders in the Antwerp diamond district — cutting out multiple intermediaries. Our low-overhead business model means we pass the savings directly to you. Same certified loose diamonds, fraction of the price.
